Dr. Burns is board certified in both anesthesiology and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology. His undergraduate degree in biochemistry is from Florida State University and he received his D.O. from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His post graduate education includes an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He studied preventative medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Georgia. He then completed a fellowship in interventional pain management at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Burns’ training encompasses all aspects of current interventional techniques. He is also one of the leading experts on radiofrequency and the treatment of pain syndromes here in the Southeast. Dr. Schimpff is board certified in pain medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He received his doctorate degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 2002. He completed his medical internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN and his medical residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. He then completed a fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2007. Before joining Coastal Spine and Pain Center, Dr. Schimpff worked as the medical director of pain medicine and the director of the spine clinic for Sheltering Arms Hospital in Richmond, VA. He was a clinical professor and the site director of the pain medicine fellowship training program at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. Dr. Schimpff has research experience working as a molecular biologist at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Christopher Manees is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with a Subspecialty Certification in Pain Medicine. He earned his medical doctorate from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in 2006 and completed his Anesthesiology Residency in 2010. Manees finished his pain medicine fellowship at the same institution in 2011, where he managed acute/chronic pain consults. Before joining Coastal Spine and Pain Center, Manees worked for three years at a private practice in Austin, Texas. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Academy of Pain Medicine, and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Renee Gallo, M.D. joins Coastal Spine and Pain Center after completing her fellowship in pain medicine from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
Prior to joining Coastal, Dr. Gallo served as a leader and teacher in her residency and fellowship programs at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine. During her years at UF, she served as Recruitment Chief Resident for the UF Anesthesiology department, an executive board member for the College of Medicine, as well as a medical student representative for Medical Economics, Subcommittee on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement. She prepared lectures and workshops for their Resident as Teacher program, interacting with medical students and other residents. Other teaching opportunities included instructing children with physical and mental disabilities on how to adapt their conditions to an aquatic environment, and providing physical therapy to children with musculoskeletal disabilities.
Dr. Gallo is a member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesia and the American Medical Association. She participated in an eight-day medical mission trip as part of Health and Education Relief for Guyana and volunteered at the Equal Access Clinic providing primary medical care to the underserved population of Gainesville, Florida.
Dr. Gallo received her undergraduate degree in food science and human nutrition, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Florida. She has also had several articles published including two published on an anesthesiology mobile application.
Scott Kowalski is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine who is board certified with the American Board of Physical Medicine Rehabilitation with a Pain Management Subspecialty. In 2004, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan and completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency in 2011 and Accredited Interventional Pain Management Fellowship at Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan in 2012.
Prior to joining Coastal Spine and Pain Center, he served as a fellowship trained pain management and rehabilitation physician in Port Huron, Michigan where he performed interventional pain procedures including cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions. He also conducted inpatient rehabilitation management of post stroke, traumatic brain injury, multi-trauma, orthopedic and debility patients. In the office Dr. Kowalski is well versed and skilled in performing EMG’s and evaluating patients with challenging pain conditions.
Dr. Kowalski is a member of the Michigan Osteopathic Association, American Osteopathic Medical Association, American Academy of Pain Medicine and the North American Neuromodulation Society. Born and raised in Jacksonville, she then earned her bachelor’s degree and completed her physician assistant program from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville graduating Magna Cum Laude. Niece has nearly 20 years of experience providing patient-oriented care. Prior to joining Coastal, she has been a pain management provider for 15 years, involved in all aspects of patient care including detailed history, physical examinations, development and implementation of treatment plans and non-surgical procedures. Krystin Navarro, PA-C, MMSc, is a certified physician assistant with more than eight years of clinical experience, holding memberships in the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. She earned her Masters of Science in Medical Science from Nova Southeastern University in 2012, and attained significant experience from internships spanning several centers, including St. Vincent’s Primary Care and NAS Jax Naval Hospital, both in Jacksonville. Before joining Coastal Spine and Pain Center, Navarro worked as
a Certified Physician Assistant at the Medical Marijuana Treatment Clinics of Florida, evaluating and qualifying patients for medical cannabis as well as preparing individualized treatment plans for those with chronic medical conditions. Previously, Navarro worked as a PA-C for Emas Spine and Brain Specialists managing patient treatment, exams and diagnostic testing. Additionally, she has experience working with pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to pain management from her time with Riverside Pain Physicians and Beaches Pain Consultants.
Leslie Horne is a Physician Assistant certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She earned her Master of Medical Science from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Prior to attending PA school, Horne qualified as an EMT-B and worked in an emergency room. After graduation from PA school, she worked in an urgent care center, seeing patients as well as conducting DOT physicals and ordering and reading diagnostic tests. Horne then transferred to a pain management where she assessed patients and was trained to administer interventional pain management options such as trigger point injections, as well as the management of surgically implanted pain relief devices. She also participated as a subclinical investigator on medication research trials.
Horne is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants.
