James Shields is a board certified Coastal Spine and Pain Center physician with more than 30 years clinical experience, including interventional pain management, pain medicine, anesthesiology and emergency medicine. Dr. Shields has leadership history in practice management, utilization management and quality improvement activities in the hospital and in a managed care setting.
Dr. Shields joined Coastal Spine and Pain Center from interventional pain management practices in Georgia, where he provided multiple treatments daily such as epidural steroid injections, selective nerve root injections and pain-relieving nerve blocks as part of comprehensive care.
Dr. Shields received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School, Jackson, Miss. and holds a Master’s in Business Administration for Physicians from the University of South Florida, Tampa. He is certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine, the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Managed Care Medicine. He is affiliated with the American and Georgia Societies of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American and Georgia Societies of Anesthesiology and the American Medical Association.
