Intra-articular Joint InjectionsAn Intra-articular joint injection is a treatment that allows for steroid medication to be directly injected into the joint space. Steroids typically help reduce inflammation which in turn reduces pain. Typically, if a person has not responded to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), an intra-articular joint injection is another option to provide pain relief. The pain relief can be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Some people can even get relief of their symptoms for six months or more.
